Mad Dogs and Australians ! - Flying 3rd January 2010
Our antipodean member Trev posted on our club forum that there was a light dusting of snow and flying would be no problem. After navigating untreated roads (why do we pay council tax ?) I arrived at our club at about 10:00am, it was snowing (for a change) and the padlock was frozen up, after peeling my skin from the lock I sat in my car and made some quick phone calls tempting members to join in the 'tropical' conditions and to bring some de-icer..... just in case, they took the bait and soon we had a gaggle of members eager to get into the air !
After reading an old article in one of the mags left in our club hut I couldn't help thinking I'd like to try this sound thingy stuff in my recently acquired H&M FW190 (cheers Scott Cupello!) After looking about I opted for the Bendini mini system from http://www.benedini.de/ together with a USB programming dongle and amp. A few days later the goodies arrived in a very small box and I thought some chance of getting a large sound out of this thing but oh how wrong I was ....
It was cold, windy and overcast and I’m on top of Baildon Moor stood next to my trusty old Phase 6 waiting for my set when some guy walks to the edge of the slope, shouts out his frequency and lobs a model into the sky – good old Baildon rules! I watched for a while and then decided to join in.
After flying the Vertigo II through the summer months I decided to let it rest for a while and acquired an up-to-date pattern ship and having a Saito .82A Golden Knight hanging around my dad’s workshop and a Saito .91 spare, this gave me quite a few options.
